ELASTIC BABY CARRIER SCARF TUTORIAL

We want to teach you how to put on an elastic baby carrier. You will see that we propose two basic knots: the elastic scarf with a pre-tied knot and the elastic scarf with the cross wrapped.

Elastic scarf with pre-knotted knot

Our elastic scarves allow for this type of knots, ideal from the birth of the baby and for the first months. It is a very easy type of knot and one that we recommend for beginners in carrying. The great advantage of the pre-tied knot is that you can put on the wrap first and tie the knot, and then place the baby on it without having to adjust it.

It is important that the scarf is well tensioned. Surely, if it is your first time with a scarf, it is likely that you have not tightened it enough. Don’t worry, it has happened to us too. You will get practice easily. If your baby gains weight, you will need to tighten it more and more. Therefore, the pre-tied knot is perfect for the first months. As your baby gets older, there are other knots that are more recommended.

Unlike the wrapped cross knot, the pre-knotted one, having 3 layers on top of the baby, is ideal for times like autumn or winter, since the baby is well protected from the cold.

Safety recommendations

Keep in mind the safety recommendations that apply to all the knots you tie:

  • Your baby should have a clear airway
  • Don’t put him facing your chest, but with his face to the side
  • Your back should be in the shape of a C.
  • Your butt and legs in a frog or M position, that is, your bent knees should be above your butt.
  • The fabric should cover it up to the neck if it already supports the head or up to the ears if it doesn’t already.
  • And remember that your baby must be at the height of a kiss, you must be able to kiss him only by tilting your head (don’t put him too high either that you could hurt him with your chin).

Elastic scarf with wrapped cross knot

Putting on an elastic scarf with the wrapped or enveloping cross knot is also perfect for newborn babies as it respects their physiology and, therefore, the baby is in an ergonomic position.

The main difference with the pre-tied knot is that in this case you have to tie the wrap while holding your baby, but it is easy to do. Another difference is that with the wrapped cross knot we only put a layer above the baby and, therefore, it is more suitable for hotter times like spring or summer. However, it has a great advantage: the two vertical strips can extend across your baby’s back, and in this way keep him warmer when you consider it appropriate or with the aim of holding him better.

When the baby still cannot hold his head, it is important that you place the cloth a little above his ears without covering his face. When your baby can hold his head well, the fabric can be at neck level.

While you are putting on your baby sling, hold your little one tightly by the bottom and if you have to feel more secure, the first few times stand next to the bed or the sofa.

It is important to stretch the fabric well inwards when you are making the “bag.”
